Ardmarnoch Estate

Ardmarnoch has wonderful private grounds and gardens including a superb walled garden perfect for tranquility, for exploring, even drawing or painting but if you want to visit other gardens in the area there are plenty more to choose from.

Benmore

An enchanting garden on the Cowal peninsula, only 50 minutes from Ardmarnoch featuring 120 acres of gardens, an avenue of giant redwoods and over 300 species of rhododendron. Benmore is open from 1 March through to the 31 October from 10am.

Crarae

Crarae Gardens is a 50 acre woodland garden only 1 hour and 30 minutes drive from Ardmarnoch. The National Trust garden is open from 1 April to 30 September.

Mount Stuart

Mount Stuart, only 1 hour and 30 minutes from Ardmarnoch, near Rothesay on the Isle of Bute has some excellent gardens to view dating back to around 1717, including Kitchen Garden, Rock Garden, Wee Garden and Via Dolorosa. The Via Dolorosa features a series of pools and spectacular cascades where a walk has been restored to the upper pond.

The gardens here are around 300 acres in size and overlooked by the stunning Mount Stuart House

Ascog Hall

Ascog Hall is a small 3 acre garden restored after decades of neglect featuring a victorian fennery and enchanting garden. The unusual structure of the fennery is definitely worth a visit. Ascog Hall is open from Easter until October from 10am until 5pm from Wednesdays to Sundays only.

Achamore Gardens

This 50 acre garden on the Island of Gigha is renowned throughout the world and contains a walled garden, pond and many exotic plants and trees able to grow in this unique island climate. There are also other things to do on Gigha and it is definitely worth a day trip. The gardens are open all year round and it will take you roughly 1 hour and 30 minutes catching the ferry from Portavadie to Tarbert and then driving down to Tayinloan to catch the ferry across to Gigha. Both ferries take limited numbers of vehicles, but Gigha is small and you should consider walking.
